Nursery Admissions

When can my child start at Nursery?

The September after their third birthday. Priory Nursery Class admits a new class every September.

When can I apply?

You can apply any time for Nursery, from any age, but there is a closing date in the year of admission. For admission in 2018 the closing date is 29th March 2018.  

Who gets a place at Nursery?

Children are accepted based on our admissions criteria – to read the criteria click here. Children living in our catchment take priority over those who live further away.

When will I know if my child has a place?

You will be sent a letter telling you if you child has a place by the first week in May.

What happens next?

The school will contact you to complete forms and to make sure that we have all the information we need to ensure your child has the best start at our Nursery. This is your opportunity to ask questions. You will also be given an invitation to attend Nursery to familiarise yourselves with the set-up and also a start date for September.

What if I have moved to the area after September, during the school year?

You are still able to apply for the Nursery, if the class is full you are asked if you wish to go on the waiting list. If you go on the waiting list this does not stop you from looking for places in other nurseries. We cannot guarantee you when a place may come available but will do our best to keep you informed.

Does a place in Nursery mean that my child will get a place in the main school?

No. You need to apply for a school place separately and there is no guarantee that you will get a place. See the information further down this page on school admissions.

Does the Nursery run all day?

No. Priory Primary School Nursery starts at 8.55am and finishes at 11.55am.

How do I complete an application  for my child to join the Nursery?

School Admissions

When can my child start school?

Children usually start school when they are four years old; they will turn five during their first year at school. The academic year runs from September to August.

How do I apply?

If your child is already in a Nursery, they will give you details on how to apply. You can apply on-line or using a paper application. All applications are made to Bedford Borough Council who manage the admissions for schools in Bedford Borough. Click here for access to the Bedford Borough website.

When do I apply?

Applications open in October and close on January 15th 2018. You must send your child’s application before that closing date.

My child is already attending Nursery at Priory Lower School, so will they get a place in Reception class automatically?

No, you will need to apply for a school place through Bedford Borough Council.

Will I automatically get a place – I live very close to the school?

Places are allocated based on our catchment – if there are more children in catchment than we have places then Bedford Borough follow our admissions criteria. Click on <<here  to see our policy.

My child did not get a place, what can we do?

You have the right to appeal to Bedford Borough Council. You are also asked if you wish to go on our waiting list for places. We cannot tell you when a place will be available.

My child has been given a place at your school – what happens next?

You will receive a letter from Priory Primary School inviting you to a special assembly and will contain all documents that you need to complete before your child starts in school. You will be invited to a special assembly and have the opportunity to order uniform.

I have just moved into Bedford and my child needs a place in school – what do I do?

You need to apply for an in-year place with Bedford Borough Council, they will search all the schools near where you live and try and find you a place for your child. <<click here to apply for a place.
